Fishing Report and News 1/7/22 – 7/7/22

76 rods caught 210 trout for a rod average of 2.76

August can often fall into the description of the ‘dog days of summer’ but we’d say that we got off to a reasonable start. As water temperatures increase slightly its really helpful for anglers to keep a close eye on the weather forecast and pick fishing days carefully to align with the best conditions, look for breeze and cloud if you can find it to increase your chances of success.

In terms of methods the usual ‘washing line’ tactics have reigned supreme, teamed with a tequila fab on the point and hares ear based patterns on the droppers. With many fish being caught pretty close in the buoyant point fly will allow you to fish slowly and effectively, it certainly begs the question as to why the fish are close in during the warm weather? We can only put it down to Tofts rich marginal feeding of Corixa, Shrimp and Hoglouse, amongst others

As we have previously indicated were staying open right the way through August and we will keep you updated throughout so that you can prepare yourselves accordingly with the current fly patterns and tactics.

Also please don’t forget that the 2022 Toft Classic is approaching on Sunday 30th October 2022, you can reserve your space by calling the fishing lodge on 01673 878453 and paying your entry fee of £50.00. This years prize pot is £3000.00 plus some additional tackle prizes. Last yearsa event was a roaring success with stillwater legend Peter Appleby taking the spoils on the day – a true champion.

We look forward to seeing you soon folks.

In terms of tactics it was pretty much of a muchness as is often the case at Toft, being a relatively shallow lake its possible to catch fish pretty close to or on the surface for most of the year and last week was no exception. Washing line tactics with a small Tequila FAB on the point and Red Head Diawl Bach’s on the droppers proved as ever deadly………

81 rods caught 261 trout for a rod average of 3.19

A real mixed bag of a week weather wise certainly hasn’t made it easy for us. As I write (22/6/22) it would appear that the hot weather has kept one or two of you away, perhaps jobs in the garden or a visit to The Lincolnshire Show have been high on the agenda – I must admit a sun lounger and some very cold cider do have a certain appeal attached to them…………

100 rods caught 374 trout for a rod average of 3.74

During spells of variable weather being adaptable is the key to success. In the brighter periods fishing a touch deeper from the boats found good sport though bank anglers can still catch more than their share by fishing smaller dries and nymphs close in – the key quite often is to ‘stick at it’, too many times lately were seeing anglers casting 20 yards when realistically shorter casts of 5-7 yards would put them in front of fish and offer better presentation…….
