Toft Update and August Opening

It’s nice to sit behind the desk and the end of July and be able to report that fishing conditions are good and plenty of fish are rising, wed really like to thank those that have turned up this week following our recent short break whilst we waited for an algal bloom to subside – the water is now a great colour for fishing and anglers are putting in great returns just now.

As some of you may be aware we had originally scheduled in a planned closure for the 8th – 14th of August but we can now report that we have cancelled this and will be open all of the way through and sticking to our normal hours:

Opening hours:

Monday 0730-1800hrs

Tuesday 0730-1800hrs

Wednesday 0730-1800hrs

Thursday 0730-2100hrs

Friday 0730-2100hrs

Saturday 0730-2100hrs

Sunday 0730-2100hrs

Over the last couple of weeks we’ve spent a great deal of time pressure washing the banks at Toft to rid them of some moss, weed and any other detritus you might care to mention! the only slight moan we’ll have is the amount of waste line we’ve picked up during our clean up, please make sure you take it home with you.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

In terms of tactics it was pretty much of a muchness as is often the case at Toft, being a relatively shallow lake its possible to catch fish pretty close to or on the surface for most of the year and last week was no exception. Washing line tactics with a small Tequila FAB on the point and Red Head Diawl Bach’s on the droppers proved as ever deadly………

81 rods caught 261 trout for a rod average of 3.19

A real mixed bag of a week weather wise certainly hasn’t made it easy for us. As I write (22/6/22) it would appear that the hot weather has kept one or two of you away, perhaps jobs in the garden or a visit to The Lincolnshire Show have been high on the agenda – I must admit a sun lounger and some very cold cider do have a certain appeal attached to them…………

100 rods caught 374 trout for a rod average of 3.74

During spells of variable weather being adaptable is the key to success. In the brighter periods fishing a touch deeper from the boats found good sport though bank anglers can still catch more than their share by fishing smaller dries and nymphs close in – the key quite often is to ‘stick at it’, too many times lately were seeing anglers casting 20 yards when realistically shorter casts of 5-7 yards would put them in front of fish and offer better presentation…….

Nice steady sport is perhaps the best way to describe the last week, that said its fair to say its that time of year when we need to apply ourselves just a little more and on the whole do things a little ‘better’………………
